Following this previous post, I wanted to share with you for today “Ven Y Ven Y Ven“, a timeless standard of the latin musical repertoire initially recorded in 1965 by the composer Johnny Pacheco (Dominican Republic), and covered here in a killer sweet top notch Afro Latin Salsa version, recorded in the 70s by the Congolese (former Zaïre) composer & singer Michel Boyibanda and backed by the mythical orchestra “OK Jazz” founded by the legendary François “Franco” Luambo Makiadi.

Munir Bachir was an Iraqi musician, native of the city of Mossoul.

He began the Aoud (6 strings lute from Iraq) play at 5 years old and became teacher of this instrument at the Musical School of Bagdad at 15 years old.

He militate all his life in favor of the recognition of the Aoud in the Middle East, considering it as a more advanced musical instrument than the mandolin or the sitar.

He toured a lot in Europe (France, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany..)  before going back in Orient in the 70s, and recorded a many albums.

The song I wanted to present you today, “Fouk Ennakhl“, is a perfect crossover of Oriental and Occidental musical influences with sweets melancholic piano and violin parts that remind the recordings of the famous Rahbani Brothers from Lebanon – Enjoy !!

Abeti Masikini was one of the most famous Congolese singer, born on the 9 of October 1951 in Kisangani (Democratic Republic of Congo, former Zaire).

After being graduated of a secretary diploma, she integrated the Congolese Ministry of Culture and Arts in 1969.

She started to become known in 1970 thanks to a singing contest on the National Congolese TV, toured in 1971 in many African countries (Togo, Benin, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Ghana, Niger..), in Europe (she performed in France in 1973 at the Olympia Concert Hall in Paris, in Belgium..) and also in the United States 1974 at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York.

She recorded her first album in 1973 and around 20 others and dozens of singles after that.

She died on the 28th of September 1994 in Paris.

The song presented here, “Beya Beya“, is a splendid deep and melancholic Afro psych fusion track taken from the live album that was recorded on the 7 and 8 of April 1975 at the Olympia Concert Hall in Paris – Enjoy !

For today, I decided to present you “Djih Yang”, a very deep folk bikutsi track with jazz reminiscences taken from the first album from the great Anne-Marie Nzié, my favourite singer from Cameroon and considered by many (that includes me) as the Queen of the Bikutsi (a traditional Cameroonian musical genre).

She passed away last year in 2016, may she rest in peace..
